The World Cup is coming to Houston in 2026 and there is new information available for families about how you will be able to get tickets, according to FIFA.com.
Houston is officially a host city
A press release from FIFA confirms that Houston’s NRG Stadium will host matches during the expanded 48-team tournament. That means World Cup soccer will be played in our own backyard and FIFA says tickets will be in very high demand.
The first ticket-sale phase is opening soon
According to FIFA, the first phase of ticket sales opens one week from the date of the release. This phase will operate as an early lottery/draw system, and only fans who have registered with FIFA can participate.
Registration is required
The press release emphasizes that every fan must register through FIFA’s official ticketing portal before the first phase begins. Without registration, families won’t be eligible to enter the draw or purchase tickets.
Ticket types families can expect
FIFA says three main ticket types will be offered:
-
Individual match tickets – single games, from group stage through knockouts
-
Venue-specific tickets – packages that cover all matches at a stadium, like Houston’s NRG Stadium
-
Hospitality packages – premium seating and perks, available through FIFA Hospitality
Pricing and categories
The press release notes that prices will vary by seat category and by match stage (group games versus knockout rounds). FIFA says detailed pricing, including for Houston, will be announced on its ticketing page.
Payment and delivery
According to FIFA, tickets will be purchased directly through its online portal using secure payment methods. The organization says tickets will most likely be delivered digitally, though full details will be confirmed closer to 2026.
Limits and resale rules
FIFA states that there will be limits on how many tickets an individual or household can purchase. The press release also stresses that resale will be allowed only through FIFA’s official resale platform, and buying elsewhere could risk losing access to the match.
What Houston families should do now
-
Register today: FIFA strongly recommends registering on its ticket portal before the first phase opens.
-
Stay alert for updates: FIFA will announce exact dates and times for Houston sales.
-
Plan your preferences: Decide whether you want to aim for individual matches, venue packages, or hospitality experiences.
-
Budget ahead: While FIFA hasn’t released local pricing, the press release reminds fans that costs will depend on category and match stage.
-
Avoid scams: FIFA stresses in the release that tickets bought outside its official platforms won’t be valid.
