Fun makerspace classes you can take your kids to at Houston libraries this summer

This summer, Houston Public Libraries are offering a variety of makerspace classes designed to inspire creativity and learning in children.

From 3D printing to coding, these hands-on workshops provide opportunities for kids to explore new skills and engage in fun, educational activities.

Utilizing resources from the Houston Public Library website, we’ve compiled a list of standout classes to help you plan an enriching summer for your child.


1. Laser Engraving and Cutting Workshop

Dates: Thursday, July 10, 2025 | 5:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

2. Kids Craft Program

A fun and imaginative crafting session where children ages 5–10 can create exciting projects to take home and show off. This program encourages creativity and hands-on learning in a supportive environment. Kids will enjoy exploring their artistic side through guided activities designed to inspire and engage. It’s a great way to foster self-expression while having fun in a safe, interactive space.

Dates: Monday, July 28th, 2025 | 4:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.

3. MAKER CREW ideaMAKE Series at Children’s Museum Houston

A multi-day invention and fabrication workshop where kids (ages 8+) can dream up their own projects and build them using 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing machines, circuitry and more. Sessions run in three-day blocks, 2 hours/day. Projects vary from robots to Minecraft lamps, makers bring ideas, and expert staff guide them to life.

  • June 25–27, 2025 | 1:00 P.M.–3:00 P.M.
  • July 8–10, 2025 | 9:15 A.M.–11:15 A.M.

4. Digital Poster Design Workshop at the Design Studio

Presented in partnership with Houston Community College, this exciting digital art workshop introduces kids (ages 8 and up) to the world of graphic design. Using iPads and Apple Pencils, young creators will learn how to design custom posters with eye-catching layouts, vibrant colors, and fun graphics. Whether they’re making something for school or just expressing themselves, the session is all about learning through creativity and play. Taught by Instructor Luis Pruneda, the workshop offers hands-on guidance in using tech tools to turn ideas into stunning digital art. No prior experience is needed, just imagination and curiosity!

5. MindFest Challenge 6: Fizzy Lemonade vs. Bernoulli Basketball

Get ready for a fun-filled science showdown at MindFest Challenge 6, where kids of all ages can dive into hands-on STEM excitement! Sponsored by ExxonMobil, this high-energy event features two interactive experiences: Fizzy Lemonade, where participants mix their own bubbly drink while learning about chemical reactions and measurements, and Bernoulli Basketball, where they’ll use a leaf blower to float beach balls into hoops, applying real-world physics and math in the most entertaining way. It’s the perfect mix of learning and play to keep minds active this summer. No prior experience required,just curiosity and energy!
