
Can Blitz is a newly launched service from the City of Houston’s Solid Waste Management Department. It allows residents to quickly pick up new or replacement trash carts (“black bins”) directly, instead of waiting for often lengthy scheduled delivery.
Why did Houston launch Can Blitz?
Mayor John Whitmire highlighted a surge in requests—especially from new subdivisions and households needing replacements—totaling thousands of recent service requests. Can Blitz responds by streamlining access to bins through in-person pick-up locations.

Monday–Friday: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

What do residents need to bring?
To receive a new or replacement trash cart, be sure to bring:

A copy of your current water bill (for address verification)

Your 311 Service Request (SR) number

If replacing a can, your damaged cart must be brought back

What if I can’t pick it up in person?
If you’re unable to pick up a cart yourself, delivery through the standard 311 request process remains available—though delivery times may take longer,
