From a Dads club to the Houston Rodeo: How Casey Schulin gives back

Image

Casey Schulin, a resident of Coles Crossing, is not just dedicated to his role as a Regional Sales Manager for DCI Edge; he’s also deeply committed to improving his community through active involvement in the Coles Crossing Dads Club.

Schulin recently collaborated with his HOA to replace a 24-year-old playground. His passion for community service extends beyond his neighborhood as he’s an active volunteer with the Houston Rodeo, serving on the Mutton Bustin committee. Watching his son participate in Mutton Bustin has been a particularly rewarding experience for Schulin, as it allows him to share in the excitement and tradition of the Houston Rodeo while creating memories with his children.

This profile is part of our Great Dads series, celebrating dads doing great things in Houston.

Name: Casey Schulin

Where you live: Coles Crossing

Tell us about your family: I have been married to my wife, Melanie Schulin for 14 years. We have 2 children. Our sons name is Casen (8) and our daughter Ellie (4)

What do you do for a living? I am a Regional Sales Manager for DCI Edge. We provide dental equipment to dentists all around the world.

What’s the best thing about being a dad: To me, the best part of being a dad is watching the day to day growth of each of our children. It is not always an easy task, but it is so rewarding to me to watch each of their achievements thus far and to help them grow up to be a successful member of our society.

What’s the hardest thing: The hardest challenge is making sure to find the time to dedicate to them and turn off work and outside distractions. We can often let things “get in the way” of special times that we may or may not ever have again. I have been working hard to try to find that balance.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Houston with your kids: Some of our favorite things to do in Houston are Astros games, fishing in local ponds and down on the coast in Galveston, the Houston Rodeo, and the Houston Zoo. I am involved in the Houston Rodeo Mutton Bustin committee, so it has been a thrill for me to watch my son ride a sheep and have that experience.

Anything else you would like to mention? I would encourage any dad to stop and just get involved as much as you can. There are so many opportunities to be involved to help build relationships and make your community better. I am currently involved in our Coles Crossing Dads Club, in which we meet to help improve our community through various events. I am head of our Coles Crossing Playground, where I was able to recently work with our HOA to get our 24 year old neighborhood playground replaced. Lastly, my involvement at Rodeo Houston on Mutton Bustin, where I get to work with children everyday and see some of the biggest smiles! Volunteering and giving back is important to my family and I, so anything we can do to make our community and city a better place for the next generation, we love to participate in.
