Houston has an impressive lineup of theater performances and programs designed just for families this Fall.
Whether you’re looking for a fun afternoon out or a season-long activity , Houston’s theater scene has you covered. Here are some of the performances that should be on your list:
1. Main Street Theater – Theater for Youth
Main Street Theater’s Youth Season includes Purlie Victorious (Sept. 13–Oct. 12, 2025) and The Pigeon Gets a Big Time Holiday Extravaganza! (Nov. 13–Dec. 21, 2025), a playful, Mo Willems–inspired musical perfect for families. They also run classes and camps for ages 4–14.
Why it’s great: Professional-quality, accessible storytelling rooted in children’s literature means your young ones can enjoy a polished show and maybe take part in one next year.

2. Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) & Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT)
TUTS is a pillar of Houston’s stage scene, offering Broadway-style productions and free summer performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Their training arm, HSMT, provides year-round classes for youth, including musical theater programs and apprenticeships.
TUTS kicks off its 2025–26 season with the uproarious The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, running from October 21 through November 2—a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud musical where even audience members can be called onstage to spell.
Later in the season, the magic of the holidays arrives with Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, set to run December 9–24—a sparkly, feel-good production filled with timeless tunes like “White Christmas” and “I Love a Piano.”
Why it’s great: If your kids are dreaming of singing, dancing, or acting—this is where real-world skill meets dream-chasing
3. HITS Theatre (Houston Heights)
HITS offers fall classes for K–12 students in acting, dance, and singing—culminating in student-led performances. It’s a wonderful, nurturing environment that encourages creativity and confidence.
Their “Mini Alice in Wonderland” (Grades K–2) runs Monday/Wednesday from Sept 15–Nov 5, and there’s also a Tuesday/Thursday option from Sept 16–Nov 6. For Grades 3–5, the Musical Theater Workshop happens on Saturdays from Sept 13–Nov 8, wrapping up with a family observation day on November 8. Then, mark your calendars for the big fall productions — student-led shows at HITS on Nov 14, 15, and 16 with separate casts and multiple showtimes, offering plenty of chances to catch the magic live
Why it’s great: HITS lets kids shine without pressure and embrace theater as a launchpad for self-expression.
